Livorno – Italy

Livorno is the gateway to Tuscany,Pisa, and Florence. This port city has a bustling shopping area that kept us busy until we could board our motor coach to Pisa. We were also able to enjoy some of the local pizza and take in some of the ambiance. The people there were very friendly too, so you didn’t feel too much like a stranger. This was one of the shore excursions that we handled on our own. When we took the bus from the dock to the city center we booked our own trip inland to Pisa quite easily. The ride through the italian countryside was very scenic and relaxing. Once we arrived at the spot where the buses unload everyone we had to walk through the streets of Pisa to get to the Tower complex. It wasn’t a very long walk, and there were lots of street vendors along the way to make it feel shorter that it was. Here are some great photos from our special day in Pisa. Unfortunately time didn’t let us make it to the top of the Tower so this is definitely a spot we’re coming back to visit again. Neat bit of trivia, Pinocchio was born in Pisa!

We left Livorno and Pisa with a sadness because this was the last port of call before returning to Civitavecchia and the on to Rome.
